Sven B. Schreiber (sbs) Before creating his magnum opus "The Black Codex" and starting his "Inventions" series, Christiaan Bruin released five albums as "Chris". This is the fourth of this kind, and as usual for Christiaan Bruin, it's a very melodic one. He follows the recipe of legendary Dutch 70's bands like "Kayak", "Focus", "Ekseption", and "Trace", blending rock songs with melodies and chord processions more typical for baroque music. The result clearly is on par with the old masters. In fact, there are many similarities between the songwriting styles of Christiaan Bruin and Ton Scherpenzeel, respectively. Favorite track: Winter Sleep.

The new live EP by Ryan W. Stevenson's project reminded me, that this debut album must have been gone down the wishlist... If instrumental Canterbury stuff is your thing, this should be a no-brainer. An amazing reinterpretations of old Genesis classics. Even "Invisible touch", in my opinion one of the worst songs by Genesis, in this album is a little gem. You can almost imagine Steve Hackett on classical guitar. mario1984
